(Any field of study)
Campus deadline: April 15, 2014; second point of entry: August 4, 2014
Final deadline: early October 2014
Description: Extraordinary intellectual distinction is a necessary but not a sufficient condition for election to a Rhodes Scholarship. Selection committees seek excellence in qualities of mind and in qualities of person; the Rhodes Scholarships are investments in individuals rather than in project proposals. Accordingly, applications are sought from talented students without restriction as to their field of academic specialization or career plans although the proposed course of study must be available at Oxford, and the applicant’s undergraduate program must provide a sufficient basis for study in the proposed field.
Term: Typically two years.
Amount of support: All educational costs, such as matriculation, tuition, laboratory and certain other fees are paid. Each scholar receives in addition a maintenance allowance adequate to meet necessary expenses for term-time and vacations. Also the necessary costs of travel to and from Oxford.
Number of Scholarships: 32 (for U.S. citizens)
- U.S. or national citizen
- As of the final deadline, an applicant must be at least 18 but not yet 24 years of age.
- An applicant must receive a bachelor’s degree before the proposed study at Oxford begins.
Application Procedures: Applicants must be endorsed by an institution where they will have completed two years of full-time undergraduate study and received a bachelor’s degree. There will be a competitive selection process to select CU’s candidates. All applications are completed online, including a short essay. This application requires five to eight letters of recommendation. See the Preliminary Requirements for U.K. application.
